Definition: What is the VideoIdent process?

VideoIdent is an online process that allows you  to identify yourself via video, regardless of location . Legitimation via VideoIdent is possible using a  smartphone ,  tablet ,  PC  or  laptop  and via all common web browsers or apps. This makes VideoIdent an easy-to-use alternative to the  PostIdent process  at the post office.

Instead of appearing in person at a Deutsche Post AG branch, you can use the VideoIdent process from the comfort of your own home. In addition, you are often not tied to opening hours. Preparation: What do I need for legitimation via VideoIdent?

There are only  a few things you need for the VideoIdent process. These include:

  • Either  smartphone, tablet or laptop with integrated camera and microphone
  • Or  laptop or PC with external webcam and microphone
  • Stable internet connection (at least 0.5 Mbit/s)
  • Valid identification documents (identity card or passport, valid for at least three months)
  • For VideoIdent with passport: Usually also an official registration certificate or a utility bill (e.g. electricity bill) to verify your address
  • Good lighting conditions
  • Device with which the security code can be received via SMS (with WebID this can also be sent via email)
  • Possibly a transaction number from your contractual partner or your bank

Process: How does the VideoIdent process work?

You can log in either via a web browser or app using a link provided by your contractual partner or bank  . This automatically starts the video identification process. You will be connected to an employee at the Ident Center and guided step by step through the VideoIdent process. A  comparison is made between the person and the ID data  . For this purpose, the ID card (front and back) is automatically recognized and read as soon as you hold it up to the camera when requested. The security features of the ID card are also checked. At the end, you enter the security code that you received by email or SMS and thus complete the VideoIdent process.

If the identification was successful, the employee sends all data and documents in encrypted form to your contractual partner or your bank. The entire process and the transmission of the data  only takes a few minutes . You are then legitimized and can continue and complete the process of your contract or account opening.

Times & Costs of the VideoIdent Process

Identification via VideoIdent is  free of charge and not tied to the opening hours of a post office . The  times at which you can use the process  vary depending on the service provider .  IDnow,  for example, offers a  24-hour service  , and you can use WebID’s video chat between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Identification service providers and contractual partners generally do not charge any fees for the VideoIdent process.

Which VideoIdent providers are there?

There are a number of providers of VideoIdent services in Germany. The best known include  IDnow and WebID Solutions . These providers work with a wide range of companies, including banks, insurance companies and telecommunications companies.  Identification with IDnow is possible via KapitaalKern  .

How do I get my Ident ID?

The Ident ID is a security code that   is sent by service providers such as IDnow or WebID via email, SMS or app . It is required during the VideoIdent process to complete the identity verification.

However, the Ident ID should not be confused with the process or transaction number of your contractual partner. This is used to clearly assign an identification via video to a person, whereas the Ident ID serves to confirm the identity. The transaction number is usually already integrated in the link that you receive to start the VideoIdent process. You will receive the Ident ID during the video chat.

What are the advantages of online identification with VideoIdent?

The VideoIdent procedure has a number of advantages, especially compared to the PostIdent procedure:

This is how the VideoIdent process works with KapitaalKern

Step 1: Register with KapitalKern

First, register for free at  www.KapitaalKern.com

Are you already registered with  KapitaalKern  ? Then you can start directly with step 2.

Step 2: Start the VideoIdent process

After successful registration or login, you will find a light blue section on the right-hand side of your  KapitaalKern account  with the title: “Complete your registration”. There you will see the next steps necessary to open the account and you can click on the “ For identification ” button.

Step 3: Choose VideoIdent variant

You will then see an overview of all the options for identifying yourself at  KapitaalKern  . In addition to the VideoIdent process, you can also choose the PostIdent process on site at a post office of your choice. If you decide to carry out the identification via video, you can   choose between two options :

smartphone / tablet

To carry out the VideoIdent process using a smartphone or tablet, you need the free  KapitaalKern app  on the device you want to use. You can find the app in every iOS and Android app store (iOS: Build wealth with  Raisin , Android:  KapitaalKern : Build wealth). Once you have downloaded and opened the app, follow the steps described there.  Have your identification documents ready  and start the VideoIdent process using the app. You will automatically be connected to an IDnow employee and guided through the identification process step by step via video chat.

PC / laptop with webcam

To carry out the VideoIdent process with your PC or laptop, you should first  check whether the webcam and microphone are working . Most laptops have both an integrated camera and a microphone. With a computer, you usually need an external webcam and a headset. If all the technical devices are working and you have your ID documents and your cell phone ready to retrieve the Ident ID, you can click on “Desktop & Webcam”. In the next window, click on ” Start identification ” at the bottom right to begin the VideoIdent process. The video chat will connect you with an IDnow employee. You will then be guided through the identification process step by step.

Step 4: Identification via video chat

The IDnow employee will compare your ID and the data you have provided with you via video chat. Both the front and back of your ID card will be read automatically.  To do this, hold your ID card up to the camera when prompted . The security features will also be checked. If you use the VideoIdent process with your passport, the data will also be compared by holding it up to the camera. You complete the VideoIdent process by  entering the personal ID code that you receive via SMS to the mobile phone number provided. Depending on the availability of the employees, the VideoIdent process via IDnow only takes a few minutes.

The important steps and instructions will also be displayed as text during the video call .

Step 5: After identification

After completing the VideoIdent process, IDnow sends all  data and documents securely  and  encrypted to KapitaalKern  so that your  KapitaalKern account  and any products you have already selected, such as an  ETF portfolio  via  asset management , can be opened. There are no costs for you for the entire VideoIdent process at  KapitaalKern  .

Data protection: How secure are your data when using the VideoIdent process?

KapitaalKern  cooperates with IDnow to carry out identification via video  . The data generated during the identity verification process is stored in  highly secure data centers  in Germany.  IDnow is  a  provider certified according to strict data protection guidelines . The data transferred to  KapitaalKern  is always encrypted. Personal data is stored by IDnow for 90 days as standard and then completely deleted.
